Snake River Pipeline

The Snake River Pipeline with be a series of pipelines and open canals built from the Snake River near Springdale to the top of Great Salt Lake to supply water into the Salt Lake. The idea is simply to raise the water level in Salt Lake to encourage increased lake effect snow to fall on the Wasatch Mountains. In return the additional snowmelt will provide extra drinking water.

Initially the section of the lake north of the railway line will be filled and the water will reach up to the previous high water mark. After the top section of the lake it full, the water will then be let into the main body of the lake. The area of the northern section will double in size quite quickly.

Being a relatively small (72 mile length) project in comparison to the others, once approval is given the project is expected to be operational in 120 days. The pipeline will follow the route of the highway.

Once the Salt Lake is full or the Pacific Ocean supply line is in place, an extension can be built to feed a filtration plant which will supply drinking water to Logan and Tremonton.

Mixing fresh water with salt water is not a good plan, but this will simply be a short term effort to stop the Great Salt Lake from drying up any further. As soon as the supply from the Pacific Ocean is in place, the fresh water will be diverted to Logan for use.
