Brine Disposal

Brine Disposal

Brine from the desalination plants can be pumped into settling ponds. Once the water evaporates, the salt will be packaged and sold off as table salt, water softeners and road salt. The water will evaporate and end up as rain. This could save salt manufacturing plants from performing expensive underground salt mining.

Within reason; any large flat area can be used as salt beds and a desalination plant can be built on site. Nevada, Arizona, Utah, California, Texas and New Mexico are all options for this system.

Any brine solution that is discharged back into the ocean would be mixed 6 : 1 with sea water and the discharge point would be near the surface. The mixture of sea water into the brine will be adjusted to match the salt content of the brine. Ratios of up to 10 : 1 can be achieved resulting in zero effects on the environment. Once the systems are in place, by using solar power, there will be an almost unlimited supply of fresh water to all of the western states.
