The Western States Water Replenishment Program was born while the founder was driving from Sacramento to Los Angeles many years ago. Just after crossing the California Aqueduct they saw warning signs about dust storms. Further down they saw a Dust Devil and realized they were less than 50 miles from the Pacific Ocean.
Living only 8 miles east of the San Francisco bay and having to pay $400 per 3,500 gallon ($0.11 cents per gallon) truck full of water every 3 weeks to the house, the ridiculousness of the situation became very apparent. Further up the coast, ocean front communities living just 100 yards from the ocean are trucking fresh water in at extremely high prices of $0.29 cents per gallon so that they can remain living in their houses. California is not a poverty stricken third world country where this kind of scenario could be imagined. The people are looking at trillions of gallons of water, but they can’t drink it or use it.
After previously working as an X-Ray certified pipe welder, the thoughts of building a pipeline to the area from the ocean and desalinating the water, were present for the rest of the journey to Los Angeles and the WSWRP was born.
Later while working for a company commissioning small scale desalination plants which were the size of a 40 foot shipping container and each unit could support 6,600 people per day, the reality of all of this was realized. Anything that is done can be done on a larger scale. Overseas countries are flourishing in desert areas because they have invested in the infrastructure and technology.
As a quest to help society as well as the animal population, WSWRP will be promoted and pushed until some of the projects are built.
